Editorial Standards
This page explains where the numbers on FinalExpenseInsuranceCost.com come from, who reviews the guides before they publish, and what happens when a reader flags something wrong. It exists so you do not have to take the calculator's output on faith.
Where the pricing comes from
The premium ranges in the calculator and in the guides are built from published carrier rate tables for simplified-issue and guaranteed-issue whole life policies, cross-checked against final expense market surveys and rate filings that insurers make public. We do not use a single carrier's book of business as the basis for the site-wide ranges, because that would skew the numbers toward whatever that one insurer happens to charge. When a range is specific to a scenario, such as a ZIP code adjustment or an age band, the guide states what it is based on rather than presenting a bare number.
How a guide gets written and checked
Each guide starts from a specific question a shopper is likely to have, such as how much coverage is enough or what a no-exam policy actually covers, and is written by a named author with a background in personal finance or insurance content. Before publishing, the pricing figures in a draft are checked against the same rate-table sources used for the calculator, and the FAQ answers are checked against the structured data markup on the same page so the two never drift apart. Guides are dated, and a guide that references a dollar figure carries the update date shown near the top of the page.
Corrections
If a reader points out a rate that looks stale, a state that is missing, or a factual error in a guide, we look into it and update the page directly rather than issuing a separate errata post. Material corrections, meaning ones that change a dollar figure or a factual claim, get a new "updated" date on the page. Typo fixes and formatting cleanup do not carry a new date. To flag something, use the contact page and include the page URL and what looks off.
Independence and compensation
This site is not owned by or affiliated with any insurance carrier, agency, or funeral provider. It is reader-supported: some links send readers to a licensed agent or quote marketplace, and a referral fee may be earned if a reader requests a quote through one of those links. That arrangement does not influence which carriers are described favorably in a guide or what the calculator estimates, and no carrier pays for placement in the rate ranges shown on this site.
